Our body reacts three different ways to stress:

1- When you feel challenged: Release norepinephrine (fight hormone)

2- When you feel loss of control: Release epinephrine (flight/anxiety hormone)

3- When you experience chronic stress: Release cortisol leading to “cortisol cascade”

What is cortisol cascade?

A- Release fatty acids in blood which is a precurser to heart disease

B- Relocating fat deposits to deep abdomen (visceral obesity)

C- Enhances lipogenisis or new fat creation

How can we manage stress?

Exercise, mind-body programs, relaxation techniques and problem solving strategies lead to reduced stress, depression, and less cognitive decline.
